HC28 maison at Design Shanghai 2024: “Courtyard Living” and the Search for Balance Between East and West
In June 2024, HC28 maison made a striking appearance at Design Shanghai, one of Asia’s leading design events, with its themed exhibition Courtyard Living. Reimagining the traditional Chinese siheyuan (courtyard house) through a modern design lens, the showcase blended simplicity and elegance, movement and stillness—capturing a lifestyle of ease and refinement.
The booth drew the attention of many international design luminaries, including renowned designers Frank Chou, Luke Pearson, and more. It also served as the stage for a high-level panel discussion on the topic: “Can Eastern and Western design truly achieve fusion and balance?” The conversation brought together Chinese designer Zhou Chenchen, German designer Sebastian Herkner, HC28 maison founder Li Jianwei, and Design Shanghai founder Tan Zhuo.
Through this dialogue, the panel explored how to preserve the authenticity and adaptability of design languages across cultural contexts, and how to find common ground between Eastern and Western aesthetics in an increasingly globalized world. HC28 maison’s presence at Design Shanghai once again underscored its confidence and openness as a Chinese original design brand engaging on the international stage.
